March 27, 2010 ~ Casting is still underway for the part of ‘old’ Jacob.
I tweeted the director @Hibbits, “Anyone on the short list for ‘old’ Jacob? and he responded: @WFEfilm “can’t say yet, but but will let you know when we land someone”… Hopefully more info soon!

March 26, 2010 ~ Christoph Waltz appeared on Oprah and recorded this video: Backstage with Christoph Waltz Video “Best Supporting Actor winner Christoph Waltz reflects on his career and looks forward to his next project, the big-screen adaptation of Water for Elephants.”

March 25, 2010 ~ Here is an article from Entertainment Biz talking about the casting of ‘old’ Jacob: “Just how would Robert Pattinson look when he’s 93? You wouldn’t probably like to engage yourself in a guessing game and has already survived a shudder by the mere thought of it. After all who likes to imagine their youthly idols to grow old and wrinkly all over?

But that is the torment the casting director of “Water for Elephants” will have to brave if he loves his job. Work hazards, you say? We couldn’t agree more.

For the news is, Pattinson is going to portray the protagonist of the famous Sara Gruen historical novel and anyone familiar with the story would know that the story is based on an extended flashback when the 93-year-old war-hero starts reminiscing about his early youth, he being an early drop-out of the Cornell veterinary school and is about to join the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth during the 1930s Great Depression.

So hunt is on for an agedly avatar of Robert Pattinson.

Coming aboard with Pattinson is Christoph Waltz, of the Hans Landa fame from “Inglourious Basterds,” the role that has translated in a maiden Academy award for the consummate actor.

Waltz will be essaying the role of the off-the-hooks trainer whom Pattinson will encounter during his stint at the show.

The film is set to hit the floor on May 22 this year.” (Source)

March 24, 2010 ~ X17Online published this news bit about Reese attending ‘Circus School’: “Reese Witherspoon took a fitness class at the Cirque School in Hollywood yesterday afternoon  — yes, Cirque is French for circus — so what in the world would the blonde beauty be doing flying on a trapeze or taming lions? Well Reese is preparing for a role in the upcoming film Water For Elephants, a story about a veterinary student who abandons his studies after his parents are killed and joins a traveling circus as their vet. And yes, that veterinary student is the one and only Robert Pattinson! He’ll play opposite Reese in the historical film about a Depression-era traveling show. Pattinson’s character, Jacob Jankowski, falls in love with Reese’s character, Marlena — a trapeze artist and the wife of a crazy animal trainer. So that’s where the Cirque School comes in … Their classes are taught by working circus professionals; the school’s founder is a Cirque du Soleil veteran who specializes in aerial arts. I don’t know if they can work it into the script, but we hope there’s a scene in which Reese releases the trapeze and flies into Rob’s arms!” (Source)

March 24, 2010 ~ Some casting news: QFS Entertainment – Los Angeles “Filming Bel Ami in Europe, Robert PATTINSON, in Pre-Production for Water For Elephants, with Academy Best Supporting Actor Christoph WALTZ, Inglorious Basterds, and Reese WITHERSPOON , subordinates are now being cast. Denise CHAMIAN, Casting Director , with call for actors (extras exclusive) for Principle Photography starting May 22, 2010, Los Angeles.” (Source)

March 23, 2010 ~ Here is an interesting article from the Los Angeles Times: Hollywood prop shop helps re-create the past ~ The movie: an adaptation of Sara Gruen’s 2006 bestselling novel “Water for Elephants,” about a veterinary student who quits his studies to join a traveling circus. The scene: a group of students, circa 1931, on the campus of Cornell University. Jim Elyea’s task: to make sure the briefcases the students are carrying look authentic when the film begins shooting this May in Santa Paula, Calif.” This is an excerpt from the Los Angeles Times article on History for Hire, which is a North Hollywood company that specializes in hard to find film props. The entire article is fascinating. Here is the link for the entire article: (Source)

March 21, 2010 ~ From the Jacksonville Observer:PAGE TO SCREEN: Wonder what “Twilight” heartthrob Robert Pattinson will look like at 93? So do the casting forces on “Water for Elephants,” who’ve been checking out old guys to play the aged version of Pattinson’s character in the big-screen adaptation of the acclaimed Sara Gruen historical novel. The story is formed by his reminiscences of dropping out of Cornell veterinary school and joining the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth during the 1930s Great Depression — encountering a brutal, mentally unbalanced trainer (Christoph Waltz, fresh off his “Inglourious Basterds” Oscar win) and his beautiful, mistreated wife (Reese Witherspoon). Another key bad guy still has to be cast as well. Production’s set for May 22.” (Source)

March 19, 2010 ~ I replied back to @Hibbits today: “Thanks for the ‘tweet’, Yes you do have a great cast, am looking forward to this film in a big way. Have fan blog in place.” and he replied back to me again!: @WFEfilm “Great. I will keep you updated throughout the process. Thanks for the support.” I’m very excited to hear directly from the film’s director… He seems like a great person!

‘tweet’ reply: “@WFEfilm just getting started. Have a great crew and a great cast. Should be shooting by mid may.” Wow! the power of Twitter!
